Overview
Bijli Mahadev is a famous temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located about 14 km from Kullu and 45 km from Manali. The temple is perched at an altitude of 2,460 meters and offers stunning views of the Kullu Valley and the surrounding mountains. The highlight of the temple is the 60-foot-high staff (Bijli Mahadev) that is believed to attract divine blessings and lightning, which shatters the Shiva Linga inside the temple. The priests then restore the Shiva Linga using butter and sattoo (roasted gram flour).
